Murph: What’s up guys, how’s everyone doing tonight?
jgome: doin aiight, watching the cavs take a beating
Lork: wondiferous, yourself?
Murph: Ha, I’m good…
Murph: Anyways, we’ve been kicking the tires on talking about this idea for a while; should the Big 10 look into expanding? Why or why not?
Murph: Whatdya think Lork?
Lork: I’m all for it, especially if it’s Missouri. They would provide a spark for the Big 10 that seems to be riddled with defensive teams. It would also establish more legitimacy as it seems there aren’t as many top teams in the Big 10. 1 more top 25 team can’t hurt.
Murph: Good point…actually, as of today, the Big 10 has extended invitations to Missouri, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Rutgers…jgome, your thoughts?
jgome: I really wish Nebraska would go to the Big 10. I just don’t like their style of football. Don’t get me wrong, there a good team. Defense wins championships, but I’m an offensive minded guy.
jgome: I want to see some more excitement, I think they fit the big 10 style more
Murph: Well, let me ask y’all this, anybody, what do y’all think this does to the Big 12 if the Big 10 takes 2 of their teams?
Murph: Who does the Big 12 “steal”?
Frost28: Big 12 would look into BYU to join the North, but it comes down to numbers and money
Murph: Wow, that’s a pretty confident answer…no Utah or TCU?
Murph: well most things do. Elaborate though. Why BYU? Why not a Utah or TCU?
Lork: I can’t see BYU leaving their rivalry with Utah. I think that the Big 12 would look to steal a Texas team like TCU or Houston. Murph what do you think?
Murph: I would think with the way TCU is playing right now, they would be a huge market. TCU is the first team for me, for sure. They are a big market in the Metroplex and are one of the top 10-15 teams right now in the country. Gary Patterson is a helluva coach as well. I would love to have them if a team or two left the Big 12.
jgome: I would really like to see the Razorbacks join the Big 12. Bobby Petrino and his spread would be fun to see in the Big 12, just my opinion. Big 12 is known for the spread so it would be exciting to see.
Frost28: But that is only football, basketball not so much, BYU has both and would fit better with population and market
Lork: how would Mormons fit the market of the Big 12?
Murph: What about college baseball? TCU is phenomenal…Why BYU?
Frost28: It doesn’t matter whether they are good or not, it comes down to academics, geographics, and markets
Murph: frost, you just contradicted yourself though. you said TCU is only a big market for football; basketball not so much, then I said they are a big market in the Metroplex and are good in baseball and you said “it doesn’t matter whether they are good or not…”
Murph: kinda odd, don’t ya think?
Frost28: No not at all
Murph: And BYU doesn’t have a better population or market than TCU, not even close, big guy, might wanna check the stats on that one
Frost28: saying their basketball has weak market
Lork: geographically, TCU is a much better fit for the Big 12. Dallas/Fort Worth is a huge market and needs some excitement for football season.
Murph: but you just said it doesn’t matter whether one of those teams is good or not
Murph: remember?thus the contradiction…
Murph: Dallas-Ft. Worth…the Metroplex…bigger than SLC…way bigger actually
Frost28: Talkin school population and size, teams don’t go to conferences based on how good they are
Murph: I’ve heard numerous reports that if all of this begins with the Big 10, it will have a major domino effect. if that results, I’ve also heard that the SEC would like to add both Texas and Texas A&M…I don’t see Tech being left out if either of those schools decide to leave
Murph: It’s kind of the little brother syndrome…if the big brother does something, the little brother does also. well in this case, tech is the second little brother. they would probably not be left out of the discussion. It’s all 3 or none at all…
Frost28: I don’t see anyone going from big 12 south at all
jgome: Don’t you think they would after OU too. UT OU rivalry is huge $$$$$$$
jgome: then again UT ATM is too
Frost28: South is already establish and geographically doesn’t make sense
Murph: The bottomline is that I think UT, A&M, OU & Tech are merged at the hip. NONE of those schools go without the other meaning probably that no one is leaving
Murph: it’s established and isn’t going anywhere; at least those 4 teams aren’t
jgome: I don’t think the south changes, too many good rivals
jgome: If you think the SEC decided to make any changes to their conference, what teams would they want to add?
jgome: I would like to see VT in the sec
Murph: According to reports, ideally, the SEC would like to take UT, A&M, FSU & Clemson
Lork: SEC would try to add a Florida team, FSU would be good as they are already rivals with Florida
Murph: Yeah, the most logical thing for the SEC to do would be to add FSU & Clemson
Frost28: Agree but still that is iffy
Murph: iffy…as in, it’s prob. not gonna happen?
Frost28: More than likely not going to happen
jgome: Don’t think clemson belongs in the sec, they can never win the big game, always hyped up and always fallin short
Frost28: Why would FSU want to fight markets with Florida
Murph: how does that relate to joining conferences at all? Question to jgome right there…
jgome: just think it’s a bad idea, they can’t even win the ACC, what makes you think they can win the SEC
jgome: but none of that matters, like frost said it’s about money
Frost28: Thats what college football is about
Murph: of course, the proverbial saying ‘money makes the world go round’ definitely holds true here
jgome: I think if the SEC tried to add anyone if would be Texas, Texas brings in the money and the media. Why not have one of the biggest media teams in the best conference.
Murph: I disagree, jgome…i don’t think they would be the conference to make a major run at Texas. Believe it or not, I think the Pac 10 would be that conference…
Murph: They’ve been discussing Texas since all of this came about. They have the resources to do it also
Murph: The thing is though, it comes back to being joined at the hip with the other teams in the Big 12 south…i don’t think they leave
Frost28: Who’s they?
Murph: The Pac-10
Murph: Wtf do you mean ‘who’s they?’ good call though, le douche…
Lork: gotta read Frost . . .
Lork: Kind of interesting, but nobody has mentioned Notre Dame. Do yall think they would fit in the Big 10?
Murph: Yes, I do think they’d be a good fit. But they’ve been down this road before and have politely said no…so, again, I doubt it would ever happen. They are fine being an independent…
Frost28: They would but would never do it because of the NBC contract they already hold
jgome: ND always plays many big 10 schools neways, no point
Lork: So here’s a question since it all starts with the big 10; what does everyone feel the chances of a team joining the Big 10 are and which is most likely?
Murph: i believe it is now about 55-60%…i think missouri leaves.
Murph: the big 10 market is absolutely gigantic. way bigger than the SEC or Big 12. I think mizzou goes for the money.
Frost28: I say Rutgers, New York market is great and this would be good for the conference
Murph: NY market is great? In college football? What????? Wow, that’s a new one…
Frost28: TV Market
Murph: yeah TV market to watch the Yankees or NY Giants/Jets…dont know about Scarlet Knight football
jgome: I would go with Missouri as well
Murph: So, a Rutgers and 2 Missouri’s…B-Rad?
Lork: Missouri is my favorite to move, but I’ll vote Nebraska. They would fit well with the tradition of the Big 10. They could create some great rivalries that they don’t have as much in the Big 12 anymore.
jgome: that would generate alot more money
Frost28: Syracuse could get in the mix as well but I would think Rutgers over them
Murph: Syracuse isn’t going ANYWHERE
Murph: Rutgers, I could definitely see, but no-go on ‘Cuse
jgome: I dont think Syracuse or Rutgers goes to the Big 10
Murph: Me either
Lork: Greg Paulus was QBing for Syracuse, if anything they’re going to D1AA
Murph: I like that Lork…
jgome: I would love to see Neb to go just because I hate them and that stupid ass mascot, f big red
Lork: hahah, did someone have a bad experience with Herbie the Husker?
Murph: i’m gonna say this chat has officially got out of hand…good chat guys. join us next week for the next discussion of Tuesday Thunderdome!
