In a rather bizarre move, Juan Castillo, the Philadelphia Eagles’ former offensive line coach, has been promoted to a higher position in the organization. Ladies and Gents, meet the Eagles new defensive coordinator…? I suppose getting Howard Mudd to become the new offensive line coach was somewhat of a coup for the Eagles, thus making Castillo expendable (obviously in more ways than one), but to make him A) switch over to the other side of the ball, and B) make him the head honcho of that side of the ball, is very peculiar, and perhaps, downright stupid. Castillo did play college ball on the defensive side, as a linebacker at Texas A&I, but I don’t see how that qualifies him as a “viable candidate” for defensive coordinator. I’ve read that he is very good at ‘coaching his players up’, but I’m still not sure how that will translate from one end of the spectrum to the other. Only time will tell, I suppose, but you can bet that Philadelphia will catch a lot of flack for this move. It really is a head-scratcher.
Philadelphia Eagles make an odd, unprecedented move
