Andy is far from a "softie". The guy definitely knows his sports.
What’s up guys. Let me introduce myself as andyACEcandy… (in high school, my pickup line was “Hi my name’s Andy Candy because I’m so sweet. Then people started calling me Ace so I just added it in…lame as shit I know). Anyway, I met these guys freshman year at Tech before transferring to A&M. Don’t worry, I’m not that kind of Aggie. How I’ve kept in contact with these guys? I have no idea… I guess fantasy sports, and text message trash talk, among other things. Even though I haven’t seen any of them for years, it still seems like we’re pretty good friends because sports has drawn us all together.
I’m probably going to start out as a guest poster and write an article every now and then reflecting back on what’s happening in current sports, give my opinions/thoughts/comments, and discuss with whoever wants to join in on the “comments” section. I’ll focus on basketball, football, golf, and other entertainment regarding sports. But I will avoid NHL and MLB like the plague… sorry. Excusing myself now for appearing random in my posts… but they should be entertaining at the very least.
Can we talk about officiating for a minute? How awful is it for a professional league to be marred by it’s horrendous officiating over the years to the point where the majority of fans instantly believe the NBA is rigged? The pros/commentators/supporters of the league are constantly trying to convince and persuade us the league isn’t fixed. What other sport does this occur in? Does anyone else pay attention to the timing of calls as much as I do? Some refs, (JOEY CRAWFORD) like to control the pace of the game with their whistles. For instance, a team is on an 8-0 run pulling away, Joey will call some phantom foul on Marcus Camby (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaZIAXJJDKQ) to keep things close and interesting. Or a team will be dominating only for their star player, Yao Ming, to pick up his 3rd foul and sit on the bench for the rest of the half and the other team get back in the game. Or down the stretch of a close game in LA, Kobe misses his patented fade-away jumper, screams for a foul, and a whistle is blown. Did you know the Dallas Mavericks are ONE and SIX-TEEN (1-16) in playoff games officiated by Joey Crawford??? It’s just become so painfully obvious, I find it hard to enjoy close games down the stretch because I’m just anticipating the whistle… You know this has played an enormous part in the NBA being the NFL’s bitch. I mean the NFL Draft has gotten better ratings than any NBA Playoff game so far…. pathetic. Just pay attention to the officiating on the next close game. You’ll see how everything is controlled. It doesn’t have to be in a big moment… it can be just a tick tack foul to put the other team in the penalty with 8 minutes to go.
On to more relevant events… is there a reason why the first round of the playoffs is 7 games? Do I really need to see the Bulls, Heat, Bucks, and Bobcats play that many times to conclude they suck? Of course, you’ll get an occasional good series like the Thunder/Lakers… but the first round of the NBA Playoffs is almost as irrelevant as women’s sports.
- The Cavs look like crap and play isolation basketball with Lebron. Luckily, he’s good enough to get it done for the most part… but if Mo Williams continues to play poorly, this team is done. I know they’re the “hot” pick to win or go to the finals, but I’m not a believer. Do I want it to happen? Yes. Do I think it’ll happen? No. Although the Celtics did just get treated just as bad as the 16 year old girl in the Lawrence Taylor case….. (too soon?)
- Orlando is the hottest team in the NBA right now, and I feel like they’re being overlooked somehow. They haven’t lost since APRIL 4th! (35+ days… before the baseball season even started and even before the Final Four). They haven’t lost at home since March 14… They haven’t even lost a playoff game yet. Jameer Nelson = X Factor. I got these guys representing the East in the finals barring LBJ averaging 37, 10, and 10 in their series (yeah I got Cleveland pulling it out against the old ass Celtics). Speaking of the Celtics, how pathetic is Kevin Garnett looking recently? Bro, you’re over the hill… quit talking trash and throwing weak elbows. You used to be a BAMF when you were puttin up 30 and 15 and 5 blocks a night… but now just accept the fact that you can’t compete with the young guns.
- Lakers have an incredibly easy road to the NBA Finals. They’ll own the Jazz like they always have. How in the hell is Phil Jackson 45-0 in Playoff series when winning game 1? Oh yeah… Michael Jordan, Kobe, and Shaq….I don’t think the Suns or the Spurs can beat them. The Suns have a better chance because they play the up tempo game and can keep Bynum and Pau from HUGE numbers. While at the same time… no one on the Suns can guard these guys (don’t even tell me Shaq-tus). The Spurs have a better chance in the halfcourt game but Timmy is getting old and Pau is in his prime. Either way, Lakers and Magic to meet in the Finals again. However, if the refs have anything to do with it (which they do)… then we’ll see Cavs vs Lakers to which I’ll just pick the Lakers because I hate them, and teams I hate ALWAYS win.
- Steve Nash.. man is there any other player in the playoffs right now you wanna see win a championship as much as this guy? Such a class act, such a baller, and a good guy. No defense = No championships though.
Does anyone watch these TNT shows? “We know drama”…. I’d like to know who the hell watches these shows.
Tiger Woods and Golf:
He’s rich as hell, fairly good looking, famous, and uhhh rich as hell. No ones surprised he was bangin girls on the side. I was surprised by the dirty text messages (something about tearing up her ass and then putting it in her mouth…). Anyway, the guy comes back and finishes 5th at the Masters. Then, sucks it up like we thought he would at the Masters the following week shooting +9 and missing the cut. Now, he’s 9 shots back of Lee Westwood at the Players at -3… and will probably finish top 10 but won’t be in contention. For those saying Tiger is done… you must be as clueless as Elin was. Phil will take over as #1. Then Rory Mcllroy (that’s a hard ass name to say) will continue to impress, Tiger will slowly be forgotten and then he’ll win the US Open with a game winning 20 foot putt and all will be forgotten. Everyone will worship him again and he’ll still be banging hoes on the side. Speaking of, did anyone hear the 2 fans the other day after his tee-off? One screams “GET IN THE HOLE!!!!!” and the other screams “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!!!”. Pretty clever… wish I could find the video… sorry.
Apparently 70 something golfers were polled and 25% of them said they thought he has taken PEDs or HGH…. oh please.
One Hell of a Party
Brian Cushing still using steroids… not a shocker really. I’m just worried he won’t be able to come back to form (kind of like Shawne Merriman). I knew it was too good to be true watching this rookie DOMINATE the defensive side of the ball for a team that I love and support. I’m used to my teams losing… but I’m not used to these off the field issues. Hey, he did them at USC so one can say it’s the Texans fault. They knew the risk and they took it… and it has bit them in the ass for 4 games coming up anyway. I wonder who else has roided up at USC? Reggie? That “institution” sure has some question marks and clouds lingering over it… just sayin’.
Big Ben and Lawrence Taylor… come on guys. You’re rich and relatively famous. Can’t you get girls without raping them in bathroom stalls and motel rooms? It’s despicable really. Of course the girls involved are looking for money in a settlement… but it’s still no reason or excuse.
The philly fan being tazed. That’s the only kind of relevance baseball will play in my posts. That… and if the Astros make a run for the pennant. Another fan ran on the field the following night and nothing was done to him. What the crap kind of message is that sending? Just put snipers in every baseball stadium and you won’t EVER have this problem again. Charles Barkley says he wants to be tazered (tazed? tased?) live on TNT… If this happens, I’ll literally die of laughter.
It tips off May 15. Watch party anyone?
I’ll end it on that positive note. I’d like to send a thank you to Murph, Frost, and Gomez for letting me post my rambles on their website. Brad, I look forward to meeting ya. Great looking website, and I hope to contribute more in the future. Thanks for reading ladies and gentleman. Until next time, I’m out.
